Mark S. Stein,a Board Certified Tax Specialist, practices in the tax, corporate and commercial law area, and has extensive experience in taxation, estate planning, successions, state and local tax matters, real estate, corporate, Limited Liability Company and entity formation and planning, and mergers and acquisitions. He represents individuals and local and national businesses and is recognized as one of the leading tax and business lawyers in the New Orleans legal community.
Mr. Stein earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University, his law degree from Tulane University, and his master of law in taxation degree from New York University. During law school he was an editor of the Tulane Law Review and was a senior fellow in Legal Research and Writing. Mr. Stein graduated Cum Laude from Tulane Law School and received the Arthur Anderson NYU Tax Scholarship while a student at New York University.
Mr. Stein has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Tulane University, teaching courses in the taxation of business enterprises. He is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, having served as chairman of the Committee of Taxation and the Taxation Specialization Board. Additionally, he was a member of the Committee on Bar Admissions and had primary responsibility for the corporations, partnerships and negotiable instruments sections of the Louisiana Bar Examination. He has served on the board of directors of various charitable organizations, including the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, Firstline Schools, the Al Copeland Foundation, the Jewish Endowment Foundation, the Anti Defamation League, and Congregation Temple Sinai in New Orleans. Mr. Stein is a fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
Mr. Stein has spoken at many Continuing Legal Education Seminars including the LSU Estate Planning Institute, the Tulane Estate Planning Institute, the Loyola Estate Planning Institute, the American College of Trust and Estate Council conferences, the Louisiana Bar Association seminars, and the Louisiana Society of CPA’s Tax Conference.
Mr. Stein is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Louisiana, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
